Invitation
Invitation to attend Chemeca 2010 from the Conference Chair
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is with real pleasure that I invite you to attend and contribute to Chemeca 2010 in Adelaide, the bustling capital of South Australia, Australia.
The World is facing unprecedented challenges - global warming, massive land and water degradation and the potential for a pandemic are just a few examples - but there are also unprecedented opportunities offered by the tremendous scientific and technological advances since the first Chemeca conference some 40 years ago. Those associated with the chemical and process sector have contributed greatly to these advances and, by grasping the opportunities they offer, will lead the way in solving these challenges.
Tackling these unprecedented challenges requires engineers and technologists to work at the edge of the discipline, interfacing with other traditional and emergent disciplines. We want Chemeca 2010 to be a showcase of this modern industrial chemistry and chemical engineering both in academia and industry - your attendance and contributions will ensure this.
The Organizing Committee is pleased to advise of an initiative that it hopes will encourage contributions from industry and those who do not traditionally attended Chemeca. A fully refereed paper is no longer essential for oral or poster contributions. Instead, anyone can submit an extended abstract of 1-2 pages that will undergo review by the Technical Programme Committee and appear as part of the Proceedings. This extended abstract can be submitted any time up to four months prior to Chemeca 2010.
The Organizing Committee is also very pleased to be able to announce that a number of international journals have agreed to publish special issues of papers derived from those presented at Chemeca 2010. Journals that have agreed to date include Safety Science (Elsevier), Chemical Engineering Research and Design (IChemE), Experimental Thermal and Fluid Sciences (Elsevier), Energy & Fuels (American Chemical Society), Biochemical Engineering Journal (Elsevier), Biomicrofluidics (American Institute of Physics) and Powder Technology (Elsevier), whilst we are also in discussion with a small number of other journals in the fields of engineering education, biotechnology and nanotechnology. Contributions to these special issues will be by invitation only based on the quality of the contribution to Chemeca 2010.
We hope you will join us at the Hilton in the heart of Adelaide to experience what we anticipate will be an exciting Chemeca 2010!
Best wishes,
Mark J. Biggs
